redesign planning…
i’m really going to start planning the redesign of my blog. i’ve said it before, but i’m going to really do it this time… i hope… it’s kinda pathetisad that a geek like me is still using the old mt default template.

i need to figure out what i need to do to fix my blog style sheet so it displays correctly on ie in windows… i know it’s reported as a microsoft bug, but i guess i need to fix it somehow myself…
i seem to have forgotten to “publish” this entry from a month ago, so here it is now… at least the macromedia flash developers seem to have a sense of humor!

anyone got any thoughts on securing content displayed in a browser? a client of mine for a side project is requiring such a thing. obviously you can’t disable print screen, but i was thinking of using flash to it. you can make content non-selectable and can disable the print function in the player. not ideal, but might work. doesn’t have to be 100% non-hackable, just not easy for the average user. has to work in most browsers, too.
anyone? anyone?
just found out that flash (even mx) doesn’t support the html image tag, so not sure how to make authoring simple… hmm…
while doing some research on a topic i’ll post after this one, i came across the “flash is evil” page. i don’t know if i agree with this 100%, but sure, flash is over used. anyone got any thoughts on this? macromedia as a company seems kinda shaky from what i’ve heard, too.
bit torrent is a beautiful system. i had a similar idea while playing around with dc++ and shasta.
the idea is simple… many times multiple users have a file that i might need, so instead of connecting to a single peer that may go offline, slow down, etc., i connect to many peers and download bytes of the file. anyway, here’s the gory details – aka “protocol spec”.
note: movie industry – wake up! the geeks are way past you guys! i’ll leave it at that… {wink, wink, nudge, nudge, say no more}
note 2: i think i should switch to road runner (cable modem). i’ve tried to stay loyal to zoomtown (adsl), which has served me quite well, but i need more bandwidth!
just stumbled onto mesh on mx, a mt blog on macromedia flash mx, and thought i’d make a note of it. flash mx is very cool, but i haven’t done much with it yet.
kinda cool that he’s using mt to generate cfmx (cold fusion mx) files, even though i’m not too much into cold fusion any more.
also, in the new flashkit newsletter, there was a post on the new mx dev resource kit. i thought the flash rich text editor was cool.
i recently installed squirrelmail web-based imap mail reader on wasted. it’s awesome. not too frilly. not too much overhead. basically just does email and that’s what i want. i had been using horde/imp but that’s really overkill for what i need. since it’s written in php4, it’s pretty easy to understand how it works if need be.
my quest for good fonts on linux led me to the core fonts project at sourceforge. the “core fonts” microsoft made are distributable, so this packages them for installation in x windows. very cool – i’ve got verdana, tahoma and all the other standard cool font in linux now. it’s not quite perfect, but it’s a start!
