i hadn’t posted in a while… not all that busy, but i guess nothing to post about.
i’m sick. a cold or sinus infection since last thursday. i tried to fight it, but it got to me on sunday. i usually don’t get sick except in the winter, so this is a bit odd – as well as miserable.
did a little more mac hacking.
finished reading crypto two weeks ago. it’s a great book if you’re into cryptography and the information age. i really enjoyed it. there’s a great in-depth notes and bibliography section – i added at least a half-dozen books to my reading list.
crypto took a bit longer to read ’cause i was re-reading takedown in parallel. i’m not sure why i’m facinated by the mitnick story and it’s different sides. i do recommend takedown. it’s a good story with a lot of technical details, although i doubt tsu made many friends by publishing it. still need to get and read mitnick’s new book…
continued reading flatland, but haven’t got too far – not something to read before bed. it was written in 1880 and it’s language is a bit difficult in some manner – at least for me. but so far it’s a fascinating story. i recommend it to anyone wanting to look at things in a different way.
not one to finish one thing before starting another, i started reading various positions: a life of leonard cohen last night. cohen’s music works have been a great influence in my life, especially the album various positions.
also, shwango blog looks pretty good in kde 3.0’s konqueror browser, although the calendar’s a bit off, and editing works well too, but there seems to be some caching issues or something.
i think the intellectual content of my posts has dropped as my frequency of posting has! i’ll try harder…
ok, let’s see if this works…
sweet! i’m back in business with mt! i love open source support forums!

It sounds like a bad upgrade… you might want to try re-uploading your ‘tmpl’ directory.

then i posted:
thanks, that did it! i guess i am an idiot. i must have forgot the -r when i cp’d the tmpl dir from my temp directory. sorry for the trouble! i swear i checked that already!
ok, here’s a screen shot of the bug. (popup image)
to all my devoted blog readers… all 2 of you… sorry for not posting in a while, but this bug i’ve got with movable type is aggravating! makes me not want to post. maybe i shoulda written my own blogware… hmm… looked a bit at the perl code to attempt to fix it, but i’m weak at perl… hopefully some kind soul on the mt forums will solve this one!
ok, when i publish a new entry, mt tells me it rebuilt the page ok, then just has close and rebuild again buttons. i don’t like this!
well, the update to mt 2.21 went just fine. had to snag the DBD::mysql module, but that’s about it. i think it’s faster. still need to do the mod_perl thing and maybe boost the little 64mb of ram to 128…
this la times article was posted to slashdot, but i had to post as well. this artist changed a california highway sign to correct the original sign’s bad design. no one noticed for months – that’s how convincing it was! there’s a video clip that you have to check out.
looks like my server’s time is about 15 minutes fast. guess i need to install ntp. it’s actually only 9:33am!
man, what a slacker i am! not a single post here since monday! oh well… not much to say today – except that i’m diggin’ the better weather we’re having!
