Redesign 0.9 beta

Ok, so what do you think of the new design?

These are some of my favorite images I have and wanted to use them, but I’m not sure if the fit with the “shwango” name. I have another domain that I might move my blog to - fits my intentions better than “shwango” - I’ll keep you posted!

I’m trying all CSS - no tables. It’s still a work in progress, but wanted to get something up to show I have been doing something!

The comments CSS isn’t done yet (or even started) and haven’t got a new archives or links page yet.

I’m still getting a grip on all the CSS stuff. What’s the consensus on positioning? Relative versus absolute, etc. I’m only testing in IE 6+ and Firebird 0.7+ anymore normally - and the site prints nice for now until I can do a print media CSS.

Oh, and I’m still valid XHTML 1.0 transitional and valid CSS! That just gives me the warm fuzzies! But, I have to watch my posts… I need to find some MT plugins to fix problem URLs and other tags - like from Slashdot and Amazon.

Wow! I like it. I can’t believe I haven’t stopped by earlier to have a look. The new job means I’m not blog surfing nearly as much as I used to.

CSS designs beat the old spacer and table hacks anyday in my opinion. That’s not to say that they don’t have their own hacks and tweaks. When I first started learning the CSS way of doing things I was just happy to be learning something new. Now I see all kinds of benefits, which I’m sure you’ll see as well if you don’t already know them.

I’ve used both absolute and relative (float) positioning and as long as you watch out for some of the more notorious CSS bugs/issues, you should be okay. There are some great general CSS layout sites that I’ve snagged more than a few generic 2 or 3 column layouts from. Let me know if you’d like a pointer. I’m too tired to look up the reference at the moment. I wasn’t expecting to find anything new when I hit your blog right before crashing to bed. It’s been a very long day.

What’s the other domain? I’ll check back later or you can shoot me an email.

    Take care~
