boys and their toys…
this post is a little late, but anyway… it was a good birthday!
the best thing was sharing my 31st with jen.
then it was great having sarah throw a little gathering (her b-day is the 19th and mine’s the 20th, so that works out kinda nice) and my parents taking me, jen, kevin and amanda, and the family out to dinner.
and, of course, the presents…
i got a bottle of dewar’s and a gift certificate to buca di beppo.
jen got me the new order box set, retro – limited edition with bonus cd! disc one (aka “pop”) has the original versions of temptation (possibly my favorite song ever!) and confusion, which i only had on vinyl. the bonus disc has the full 17 minute version of elegia, quite a masterpiece to me! (i only had it on a crappy real audio file i downloaded from someplace.) the mixes on disc three (aka “club”) are pretty good – i really like the confusion remix, which i hadn’t heard before. i recommend the set to anyone – even if you have all the new order releases, as i do, and the set is quite a nice additition to the joy division heart and soul set. and what best to go with a new cd box set? a new car cd player! yup, instigated by my sis, with additional contribution from the family, i’m a proud owner of the panasonic CQ-DF583U! it rocks! i had a 6 disc changer in my baby (a 1997 toyota corolla) that died about two years ago, so i was due for something new. i had just recently replaced the rear factory speakers with some sony 6″ers that i had laying around – cuz i blew one of ‘em factory ones! and the sound is quite incredible! the 50 watts makes a huge difference! and it plays mp3/wma cds! so i put all 5 retro discs and a bunch of other new order stuff on one cdr! awesome! also, it’s sirius ready, which is cool and i might get one of these days. (i dug out my old yamaha sub box and amp – just need to wire that baby up in the trunk and i’ll be thumpin’!)
also, since it would cost like $70 at best buy to replace the ink cartridges for my old hp printer, i decided to spring for a new one! after some research and price conciderations, i opted for the canon i550 and so far don’t regret it at all! great text printing and wonderful photo prints! and for $120, you can’t beat it! and the ink cartridges are all seperate and only $12 each. i’m addicted to printing cd labels now! i’m interested in seeing how the color photos hold up over time…
