happy birthday to me! i’m 31 now… seems kinda old, but i don’t feel it! i should probably post some reflection on the last year, yadda, yadda, yadda… but i don’t really feel like it. i’m pretty happy right now and that’s what’s important…

the eighties tarot…

June 18th, 2003 osterday Comments off

when i came across the eighties tarot card deck, i had to post about it.

complete with depeche mode as “the world” card (props for quoting from and then…), morrissey as “the hermit”, robert smith as “death”, and references to ian curtis, bono, ferris bueller and the cocteau twins, it’s quite enlightening… but, then again, i don’t know much about tarot reading…

sega dreamcast = linux box

the linux geeks never cease to amaze me. now you can turn that old sega dreamcast into a linux router/firewall/vpn box. the guy put together a pretty detailed 101 page pdf.

mini-itx…

June 11th, 2003 osterday 1 comment

ok, about time i post something tech related, right?

not sure which blog i was reading when i stumbled onto the mini-itx web site, but it’s got some really cool stuff. i thought the shuttle cubes were cool, but these new mini-itx motherboards and boxes are really sweet! tiny too! the site must be in europe cuz all the prices are in damn pounds or euros or some shit like that. i hope these are not too pricey – i’d love to build a new divx/xvid player for the media room…

“spa treatment”

June 11th, 2003 osterday 3 comments

wow… i feel soooooo good right now…

my friend john called me at 4:30 to see if i wanted to go frisbee golfing… sure, i was totally bored anyway… so i picked up john (he needed a break from the wife and kids!) and we went to disc world or something like that so i could buy my “own” first set of discs. cool… off to mt. airy… it’s a tough course, but really cool cuz you sorta hike it too. i need to work on my distance. i pretty much suck, but it’s still a great time! john lost his driver twice and, one time in the woods, i took a kinda hard fall – hey, it was muddy back there! the deer were cool and would only run away if you got like closer than ten feet. basically john kicked my ass – i need to get more competitive. i’m usually like 7 strokes on a par 4! but i did par a couple… ok, only one… but it was my first time out this year.

so anyway… i admit i was a little achy when i got home. (did i mention i’m gonna be 31 in 10 days?) so i thought a little bath was in order. this was actually the first time really using my tub in the new house… i did take a bath last year when i was sick, but that doesn’t really count… wow. that’s a kick ass water heater i got! that water was sooooo hot… i didn’t have any cool bubble bath or foaming effervescent stuff, but a little dawn got me some bubbles. lit the swirrly candle and got a glass of wine. (chardonnay, cuz the merlot is for jen – see how nice i am!) put the sundays on to relax and the thunder and rain was a cool touch… it might have been lightening too, but i didn’t really care. i guess i was in there for 45 minutes or an hour… i was pretty pruned up, too! i’m sooo relaxed right now, i can’t imagine how i’m typing this… well… enough blabbering… bed time…

the “onion house”

June 10th, 2003 osterday 2 comments

i’ve never been to any real tropical locations… never even been to florida! (i did spend a few days by the mediterranean in torremolinos, spain back in high school on a class trip.) but if i ever do get a chance to travel – i hope i do! – i’d love to rent the “onion house”. not really roughing it, but i think it’s cool.

should we talk about the weather?

June 10th, 2003 osterday 3 comments

we’ve had a few days of sunny weather the last couple days, which has been very nice. last thursday, jen and i spent the day at the zoo. very enjoyable – perfect day. jen’s favs are the bonobos and i have to admit i did take a liking to them – except for a few minutes when they all looked very hostile and “planet of the apes”-ish. bonobos and humans share 98.4% of the same dna. fyi, it’s not pronounced like bono-bo (u2’s singer) it’s more like bo-no-bo. next time, train ride… maybe i’ll take some pics next time too…

friday was nice as well. we went for a walk at spring grove cemetery – not as spooky as it sounds really. good thing jen’s got a good sense of direction, ’cause i’d have got us lost… (yeah, yeah, yeah… typical male… blah… blah… blah… you win jen, happy?)

kissing catchers…

June 2nd, 2003 osterday Comments off

the new reds stadium, great american ball park, has some little fun things they do on the scoreboard between innings and such, including the “kiss cam” – where they show couples up on the big tv, who then kiss. kinda cute i think. but this guy got a little more than he bargained for – like jail!

happy june!

June 2nd, 2003 osterday 2 comments

happy june friends and readers! i turn 31 this month (the 20th), so i hope we get better weather than we’ve had. i don’t mind rain on occasion, but i deal better with sun during the daylight hours… although the rain storm at the park the other day was kinda nice while walking with jen… and listening to the sound of rain is cool… but i’d like to get more yard work done, some frisbee golf, hit the driving range, etc…
