webmail for nuts?
i recently installed squirrelmail web-based imap mail reader on wasted. it’s awesome. not too frilly. not too much overhead. basically just does email and that’s what i want. i had been using horde/imp but that’s really overkill for what i need. since it’s written in php4, it’s pretty easy to understand how it works if need be.

dreamhost is using squirrelmail for all of the accounts hosted there. i haven’t used it, but did login to check it out.
they complained that it takes up too much processor/memory in a shared hosting enviornment.. i think they are switching to some mod_perl web based email.
hope things work better for you and wasted.
that’s interesting ’cause i think squirrelmail uses the least amount of resources of all the packages i’ve tried - and i’ve tried quite a few! wasted’s pretty loaded down, but squirrelmail didn’t wince. maybe with lots of users it would be a problem. the horde/imp packages did run slower and was a pain to keep up. but really i think the php imap functions would be the ulitimate bottleneck, so if the perl imap functions are better/faster that would be a better scalable solution.
since seeing your initial post about dreamhost i checked ‘em out - i was quite impressed with their stuff. i might use ‘em for some projects.
