i’ve been reading cryptonomicon for quite a while now. i read slow, so it’s been a challenge to complete, but it’s a great book. i’ve got about 100 pages left – it’s a 900+ page monster! i’ll post more about it later, when i’m finished. if you like world war ii history, tech, codes and such, you’ll love it – but you’ve probably already read it then! stephenson did an awesome job of telling a fictional story wrapped around real history.
so many books on my list to read… crypto, the confederacy of dunces, snow crash…
compared to last week, yesterday’s episode wasn’t that great. i wouldn’t say it sucked, but i’m just not a happy with this “end game” as i hoped. but, hey, it’s just tv.
(tonight’s ally mcbeal was weak, too, but i probably shouldn’t say that i watch that show – being a guy and all, right?)
well, my sister’s wedding went off without a hitch – mostly. i’m really happy for her. i hope i can find someone to spend my life with like she did. it’s funny that with all the talk of divorce, etc., most of my friends have really great marriages. geez… i think i’m the only single one left!
congrats again, erin! (she and jamie are off to europe for the honeymoon.)
since i was in the wedding, i got the chance to ride in the suv limo – that was an outrageous ride! the things loaded with tvs, a vcr, cd player, a couple bars but no dvd.
i did my fare share of drinking, but am happy to say that i didn’t over do it.
anyway… things are getting back to normal. my aunt and uncle left this morning. it was great having them stay with me. they were telling me about the weather out in phoenix – man, this cincinnati weather sucks! 80 degrees and sunny they were saying. my uncle works for ibm, so it’s cool that we can “talk business”.
i just realized i like to put dots (…) after my subjects for some reason. hmm… interesting. i think there’s a name for “the three dots”, but i forget what it is.
since the x-files are coming to an end, i’ve been trying to catch the last episodes. and i can’t believe they killed off the lone gunmen! i thought they were great characters and even caught most of their own series. good episode, though… are they really dead? hmm….
“We never gave up, and we never will. In the end, if that’s all they can say about us, it’ll do.” – byers
someone started the thread on /. just a little after it ended for us eastern standard time people – and the west coast was not happy about the spoiler!
i just heard on the news that the discovery channel(s) is going to stop showing the credits at the end of shows. hmm… i guess that’s cool – i don’t usually watch the credits, but what about those guys that work on the show? i would think that they’d still want ‘em there even if most people zone them out.
the new issue of wired has an interesting article entitled “the blogging revolution”. question is, will people (well, internet users) pay for this type of content? i’d say most internet users are used to free content of this sort. i don’t have any reports in front of me, but supposedly the porn industry is one place people will pay for content. i’d like to know how many people pay for the extra services offered by content providers, like espn for example. i’m still more likely to buy a magazine at a book store than purchase an article online. but i’d love to see it work! how much would you pay for the shwango! blog?
be sure to check out the longbet section, too!
also cool in the new “music” issue is the interview with moby and some of the other electronic music artists.
i downloaded and compiled mod_perl last night to speed up movable type. compiling was fairly easy after tracking down the dso instructions. looked at the mt instructions to use mt under mod_perl and it’s not quite as simple as i hoped. might have re-arrange my directory structure. don’t feel like doing it right now though… hmm… “motivationaly challenged” again.
i did install ntp today, so wasted’s now got the right time.
ok, i don’t watch too much tv anymore, but i do like to watch a few shows, some of which happen to be on the “digital tier” of time warner cable. in particular, if i’m home, i like to have tech tv’s the screen savers on in the background just to keep tabs on things and they do have some cool stuff on sometimes. but the last couple days i can’t watch ’cause the digital signal breakup is unbearable – pixalization to the max! and i pay for this! arg! bbc america and trio are effected, as well as music choice. strange thing is that the digital movie channels are fine. pisses me off. guess i’ll have to call them tomorrow.
yup, i think i’m “motivationaly challenged”. i don’t have a lack of ideas. i don’t really think i’m lazy. but sometimes i do have problems getting “jump started”. i was thinking about this on sunday deciding if i should go to the store or not. it wasn’t that i didn’t have the energy to go. and i knew once i walked out the door, i’d have no problem. yet i still was contemplating going and i really needed to go! (i was out of tsunami sobe!) when i was in sixth grade i played football on the school team. we sucked, but it was fun – once i got to pratice. getting me to practice was the problem. i would be like, “i don’t wanna go today”, and that crap. but i liked going! strange.
